It’s the Revolution!

It is the beginning of the twentieth century and the lives of four young people are interrupted by the extraordinary events of the Russian Revolution. They struggle to define their roles in a constantly changing world, just as their country searches for its way forward.

Each of the four – Yury, Tonya, Lara and Pasha – finds love and loses it, faces the endless problems caused by the Revolution, and comes to a better understanding of who they are.

They are surrounded by a crowd of unusual, often tragic figures whose personal histories mirror this formative period in Russia’s history.

The small, sad group walked behind the horse and carriage which carried the coffin of Marya Nikolayevna. As they walked, they sang ‘Eternal Memory’. People along the way stared and made the sign of the cross.

Some asked who was in the coffin. ‘Zhivago’, they were told, ‘but not the great man himself, it’s his wife.’

The coffin was closed and put into the ground. Earth was thrown on top of it, and suddenly, a ten-year-old boy threw himself on top of the earth. Like a wild animal which has lost its mother, the small boy covered his face with his hands and burst into tears.

Finally, his uncle, the dead woman’s brother, led him away.

جنگ‌های خیابانی در « سن پیترزبورگ » برپاست. سربازان به شورشیان پیوسته‌اند.

این یک انقلاب است!

آغاز قرن بیستم می‌باشد و زندگی چهار نفر به دلیل « انقلاب روسیه » دستخوش گسستگی است. آنان تقلا می‌کنند تا نقش خود را در این تغییرات بی وقفه دریابند. درست مانند آنچه کشورشان در جستجوی آن است.

هر کدام از این چهار نفر – « یوری »، « تونیا »، « لارا » و « پاشا » – عشقی را کشف می‌کنند و آن را می‌بازند. با مشکلاتی رو در رو می‌شوند که دلیل آن چیزی جز انقلاب نیست. این مشکلات باعث درک بهتر آنان از یکدیگر می‌گردد.

آن‌ها توسط توده‌هایی احاطه شدند که کاملا غیر معمولی‌اند. شخصیت‌های غم‌انگیزی که سابقه تاریخی آن‌ها آینه دوران تاریخی روسیه است.

گروه کوچکی از انسان‌های مغموم به دنبال ارابه حامل تابوت « ماریا نیکلایِونا » در حرکتند. همزمان با قدم‌های آهسته، ترانه “خاطرات ابدی” را زمزمه می‌کنند. مردمی که نظاره گر آنانند، خیره و مبهوت، صلیب می‌کشند.

کسی پرسید چه کسی در تابوت است.

پاسخ ” ژیواگو ” بود، البته نه آن مرد بزرگ بلکه همسر او در تابوت است.

تابوت کاملا بسته بود و روی زمین قرار گرفت. ناگهان پسر بچه‌ای ده ساله خود را روی تابوت انداخت و مانند حیوان وحشی که مادر خود را از دست داده صورت و دستانش را به آن می‌کشید و اشکبار گریست.

سرانجام دایی او که برادر زن جان باخته بود، او را به عقب کشید.
